Press Release:

On Friday, April 6, First Presbyterian Church in Elkhart will be open to the community for a different sort of worship experience to observe Good Friday.   A Walk to the Cross is a self-guided spiritual encounter that takes the participants through a series of interactive prayer stations, exploring the events leading to Jesus’ crucifixion.  Each person will move through the worship stations at their own pace, using a printed guide for the experience.  Visitors may enter any time between 3:00 –8:30 on Good Friday, and should plan on approximately 45-60 minutes for this worship experience.

Rev. Kathleen O’Connell, Associate Pastor says, “This event is for those who are looking for non-traditional worship experiences.  It grew out of our alternative Sunday morning worship gathering, The Bridge, where we often include these kind of multi-sensory, interactive worship opportunities.  Everyone is encouraged to ‘come as you are’, whether that’s jeans or work clothes, and enjoy this time of reflection and prayer.

This “Encounter” is geared toward adults, but it is also a great opportunity for parents to explore the events of Christ’s death and resurrection with their children.  The experience would be appropriate for children elementary age and older.  An adult should accompany children throughout each station.  First Presbyterian Church is located at 200 E. Beardsley Ave. in Elkhart.  For more information or directions, call 264-3109.
